Born on 2 March 1919, the section of the Italian Naval League of Trieste is one of the oldest nautical associations in Giulia. In its almost 100 years of life it has constantly been at the service of the city by promoting the culture of the sea. In addition to sporting and recreational activities, the Lega Navale Italiana section of Trieste is committed to the dissemination of maritime culture, the promotion of sailing activity for disabled people and the protection of the marine environment. Since the end of the 1980s, the Trieste section of the Naval League has grown considerably, establishing its headquarters in the renovated Lanterna lighthouse, which already existed at the time of the Roman Tergeste: almost 35 meters high, its foundations rest on what was once the Scoglio dello Zucco (detached from the mainland until the end of the 18th century) which had a range of about fifteen nautical miles. It came into operation on 11 February 1833 and remained in service for years, painted black and white, until the inauguration of the Victory Lighthouse, a project strongly supported by the Naval League itself.
